One year in my new Tokyo home
July 04, 2020
It's been a while since I updated this blog, and I thought I'd revive this again since I have a lot of time because of the pandemic. (Oh yeah, the world is falling apart.)
Last year, I moved to Tokyo. I've been to Tokyo back and forth but never for longer than six months. This time, I'll be here longer.
One of the most exciting things for me when I first moved here was decorating my apartment and making it my own. I literally spent a lot of time thinking about how I'll make it my own, adding things to my Amazon cart, and browsing the internet. I didn't get to pick the apartment where I'm living because my company chose that for me, but I'm very pleased with the choice.
I live in Ota-ku, Tokyo. It's around the border of Tokyo, and it's so close to Kanagawa Prefecture. It's not an upscale neighborhood, and if not, it's one of the cheaper neighborhoods, but it's safe, convenient, and perfect for me. I don't think I need to live in Roppongi.
My apartment is a Leopalace apartment contracted by my company on my behalf. Usually, if you lease an apartment under your name, you'll have to pay hefty fees and I didn't have to do that so I was so lucky.
The apartment I got is a 1K. (1 bedroom + Kitchen +Bath). It's quite small but for a single person, it's just enough. Let me show you how it looks like.
My favorite part of the apartment is my tiny kitchen. I'm picky with my food, and it's so much easier to make them than buy them, so I spend so much time in my kitchen. I also recently got a convection oven so I learned how to bake bread and pastry.
With everything that is happening around the world due to the pandemic, I have been spending a lot of time at home, and it's really important for me that I keep my place clean. I already have a habit of cleaning the apartment once a week before, but now I clean it 3 times a week. It sounds excessive but it's therapeutic for me.
I really love my tiny apartment. I have lived everywhere for the last 3 years, and this is the longest I stayed in one apartment since I graduated from college. This place is my home, and I wish to stay here longer.
